Hello My Horde,

Let me tell you all about about my apparent aversion to crafting projects.

A Little History

So, to be honest I lost the totally number of crafting projects I started and didn’t finish. At first I didn’t know whay I was having such a hard time sometimes even stating them, and when I did it was like a short burst that fizzled out.

Then I got diagnosed with ADHD and after talking with the doctor it kind of made since. I will admit that if the project looks to daunting at first it will take forever for me to start them. Even though I know that they look like a lot of fun.

Not only that but I didn’t like starting crafting projects I had no knowledge in, which led to a research phase and ultimately me slowly losing interest in doing it anytime soon.

Frustration

Let’s say I make it through the research phase and start the project. For an example:

  1. Crochet
  2. Book making, including page dying
  3. Cross stitch
  4. Sowing (by hand or machine)
  5. Drawing
  6. Coloring (with markers)
  7. The whole Hello Planner failure
  8. Et.

I like doing everything listed above. I enjoyed it and it was calming for me. Which makes it frustrating for me that ill hit a few month stride in doing them and then, I don’t know.

Distractions, lost interest?

Most people say it’s because I lost interest or their simply was not enough of a dopamine output to keep you in it. Well that sucks because as far as I know I enjoyed them very much. There was a few times I randomly picked them up and was consistent for like a week or two then dropped again.

It is quite frustrating to have all these projects in my closet at all different levels of progress in my office closet or on my shelves. Then there is the questions:

“Oh, you started this a while ago. When are you going to finish.”

“Another craft? Don’t you already have ones started that you haven’t finished?.”

“Are you ever going to finish any of your projects?”

Plans to actually finish things.

For your information yes I will….eventually. I started working with people to get a better Grasp on my ADHD and to help me feel more in control of it, instead of it running me.

My hope is that it will enable me to do things I find relaxing even if it is not highly entertaining. That I will be able to finally know the satisfaction of completely finishing a craft project I did. Without huge gaps in time between starting and finishing it.

See you next week!!
